Angus Young Associates worked to relocate Beloit College’s Dance and Music Departments into the former Beloit Public Library. The design of the building fosters a sense of community and interaction that draws students and community members alike into the facility. With an open floor plan that includes a café and exhibition space for visual art and artifacts it creates an environment of transparency and collaboration through the sustainable reuse of this historic building.
The design exposes the structure of the building and allows for the critical height of the dance department located on the first floor. Music classrooms on the second floor look directly into the dance department to enhance the vertical connection between the two disciplines. Other spaces included in the relocation are band practice rooms, smart classrooms, faculty offices and private tutorial studios. Students and community members can gather casually or privately for study and meditation.
